Divorce and legal separation

Divorce

Did you know?

In 2017, there were 101,669 divorces of opposite sex couples in England and wales. There were 338 same sex couple divorces.

Getting divorced is a stressful time. When you have made the decision that your marriage is over, it is best to act swiftly in starting the divorce process. The divorce process itself can seem quite straightforward, however the practical procedures are where matters can become complicated, such as financial issues arising from a divorce. It is best for you to contact us, to discuss the options available to you. Our divorce lawyers can guide you through the process of a divorce and provide advice on matters relating to finances and children along side this.

However, a divorce does not have to be bitter and most divorces do not require you to attend Court. The procedure in relation to finances can be settled amicably and does not need to become a bitter battle. We encourage our clients to try and settle matters wherever possible and encourage mediation from the outset. We also encourage round table meetings. This process involves two solicitors and their clients having a discussion about the stages ahead.

The advantage of this process is that it is fast because it does not involve waiting for the court to respond and it allows parties to be in control of the outcome.

How much does the divorce cost?

If you are on a low income or in receipt of certain benefits you are likely to be eligible for advice under the legal aid scheme. If you are not eligible for legal aid then we will provide you with a fixed fee for completing your divorce from start to finish with no hidden costs, so you are clear how much it will cost you from the start. We pride ourselves in providing value for money and are confident that we will not be beaten on price!
